Ovarian Cystectomy (Cyst Removal Surgery)
Ovarian cystectomy is a surgical procedure to remove an ovarian cyst while preserving the ovary. This procedure is often performed when cysts are large, symptomatic, appear suspicious, or persist despite observation.
What it Includes:
- Pre-operative evaluation, including imaging (ultrasound, MRI) to characterize the cyst.
- Surgical removal of the cyst, typically performed laparoscopically (minimally invasive) to preserve the ovary and minimize recovery time. Open surgery may be necessary for very large or complex cysts.
- Pathological examination of the removed cyst.
- Post-operative care and follow-up.
Benefits
Relief from symptoms (pain, pressure), preservation of ovarian function and fertility, and diagnosis of the cyst type.
Ideal For
Women with symptomatic ovarian cysts, cysts that are growing, or those with suspicious characteristics that require removal and pathological evaluation.
